Breastfeeding support start-up opens first clinic in Barcelona

The Spanish breastfeeding support start-up LactApp has opened its first brick-and-mortar maternity and infant care clinic in Barcelona.

The clinic aims to provide lactation support and perinatal care in one space, providing services such as breastfeeding emergency appointments, lactation care, infant physiotherapy, infant myofunctional speech therapy, perinatal mental health care, tongue-tie day surgery (frenotomy) and workshops on infant sleep, weaning, work, and first aid.

The centre includes four consultation rooms and a multipurpose teaching and learning space where workshops and educational sessions for families and healthcare professionals will be held.

The centre’s second floor will be home to LactApp’s offices and open space work areas for video calls and virtual consultations.

Alba Padrö, LactApp co-founder, said: “LactApp Barcelona will allow us to go beyond the worldwide digital care and information we have been providing so far with our mobile applications LactApp and LactApp Medical.”

Ahead of the clinic launch, Padrö has revealed a mosaic photo mural by renowned photographer and artist Joan Fontcuberta, containing thousands of breastfeeding and maternity photos sent in by LactApp’s users and followers.

Laia Aguilar, midwife and director at LactApp Medical, said: “This is the place where I have always dreamed of accompanying families, a welcoming place for mothers, babies, and their families, where clinicians of different specialties collaborate towards the individual needs and goals of mother and baby in the postpartum period.”
