AI-powered partnership tackles recurring UTIs

This Women’s Health Month, Ema, an AI-driven health technology leader, and MyUTI, a digital health pioneer in urinary and sexual health, are joining forces to combat a pervasive yet often minimised women’s health issue: urinary tract infections (UTIs).

This strategic partnership will integrate Ema’s AI with MyUTI’s evidence-backed resources, delivering personalized, accessible, and credible support to women.

MyUTI is calling their AI by the name of Mya, and women can access her today on MyUTI’s website.

The Science Behind the Challenge:

UTIs are primarily caused by bacteria, most commonly Escherichia coli (E. coli), entering the urethra and traveling to the bladder.

Women are particularly susceptible due to their shorter urethra, which allows bacteria easier access to the urinary tract.

Recurrent UTIs, defined as two or more infections within six months or three or more within a year, are a significant problem.

These recurrences can be attributed to several factors, including:

  • Biofilm Formation: Bacteria can form biofilms, protective layers that shield them from antibiotics, leading to persistent infections.
  • Estrogen’s Role: Declining estrogen levels, particularly during perimenopause and menopause, can alter the vaginal microbiome, increasing susceptibility to UTIs.
  • Genetic Predisposition: Some women may have a genetic predisposition to UTIs due to variations in their immune response or urinary tract anatomy.

Bridging the Gap with AI:

The Ema and MyUTI partnership directly addresses the gaps in education, accurate diagnosis, and treatment, contributing to the ongoing challenge of UTIs.

By integrating Ema’s AI, women gain access to:

  • Personalised Insights: Ema’s AI analyses user-reported symptoms and health history to provide personalized information and guidance.
  • Evidence-Based Information: MyUTI’s library of trusted, science-backed resources ensures that users receive accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Interactive Exploration: The AI-powered experience allows users to explore testing options, understand their health, and feel empowered in their care journey.
  • Timely Intervention: The partnership promotes early intervention and prevents the cycle of recurring infections by providing immediate access to guidance and advanced testing for targeted and fast relief.

Empowering Women Through Digital Health:

Megan Henken, CCO and Co-founder at MyUTI, said: “Our collaboration with Ema represents a pivotal step in improving women’s access to credible and science-based health information.

“UTIs are often dismissed as minor ailments, yet they significantly impact the quality of life for millions.

“With AI-driven support, we can provide women with timely, reliable resources that empower them in their health journey.”

Amanda Ducach, CEO and Co-founder at Ema, added: “By combining AI-powered insights with MyUTI’s expertise in urinary and sexual health, we are equipping women with the knowledge and tools they need to take control of their well-being.”

The new AI-powered tool will launch in March, coinciding with Women’s Health Month, to emphasise the importance of proactive and informed health management.
