New partnership could help patients with postpartum depression

The newly launched MamaLift programme provides postpartum depression support for expecting and new mothers.

Curio Digital Therapeutics and Axia Women’s Health are collaborating to support women diagnosed with postpartum depression and those at risk. Through the launch of the MamaLift program, women can access a webpage that provides them with personalised trackers and tools to help manage symptoms of depression and anxiety.

The MamaLift programme is a five week programme that includes short term, web-based modules focused on developing skills to help manage symptoms of anxiety and depression, promoting social support and relationship quality, and encouraging help-seeking behaviour.

Dr. Gerard Reilly, director of the Clinical Research Division at Axia Women’s Health, said “We believe addressing and caring for women’s mental well-being is a critical part of improving women’s overall health. We’re proud to partner with Curio to connect our patients to this innovative technology that helps to make mental healthcare more accessible and more convenient for our pregnant and postpartum patients.”

MamaLift was developed specifically for women during pregnancy and postpartum and uses clinical data. While it is a general wellness device, MamaLift has been tested in randomised, controlled clinical trials.

The programme provides science-based content and personalised self-help tools and trackers through clinical trials that included more than 16000 patients.

“The MamaLift programme was developed to help women through the challenging  time following delivery. Our partnership with Axia will bring MamaLift to more women, helping them and advancing our mission of improving women’s health,” said Shailja Dixit, founder of Curio Digital Therapeutics.

Curio aims to “bring innovative and evidence-based digital therapeutics products to market that support women and help to improve their health,” she added.

Postpartum depression is a common problem that affects more than one in every ten women within a year of giving birth. The cause of this type of depression are still not completely clear.

According to Curio “technology is a critical must-have for women’s health, making it easy to scale mental and behavioural health support for women and deliver it to them on-demand, on their schedule.

“There is a worsening shortage of therapists and other mental health professionals during a time when there is increased stress and anxiety for women.

“Digitised mental and behavioural health support can help fill this void, as well as to connect women and triage them to healthcare professionals when they need additional support.”
