Wawa fertility raises €2.8m as it prepares to partner with clinics to help couples navigate ‘mentally draining’ treatments

The Danish start-up wawa fertility has raised €2.8m in funding to launch a new clinic tool and improve patient experience.

After building the wawa app to support patients undergoing fertility treatment, the company is stepping into the next phase by launching a tool that will utilise patients’ data to help clinicians make better decisions and enhance success rates.

The funding round, co-led by MMC Ventures, will help wawa partner with fertility clinics in a move aimed at strengthening doctor-patient relationships and improving overall treatment.

“The care that we see today is incredibly expensive and mentally draining. Our aim is to build a modern operating system that will make fertility treatment much more effective and much more efficient,” Cecilie Hvidberg Jakobsen, founder and CEO of wawa fertility, tells Femtech World.

“The tool we are launching is going to be using all the data we’ve been gathering from patients to allow clinics to analyse thousands of treatment cycles and patient profiles and help them make more educated decisions.”

As most of the treatments are done at home, Jakobsen says it is vital to connect the clinics directly with the patients.

“By handling everything in a more optimised way via the app, we will give clinics the chance to monitor patients at all times, reducing administrative work and helping them spend that time on treating patients instead.

“We will also support those who are in pre-treatment, making it easier for them pick the right clinic so that they don’t have to wait for weeks to go to one.

“We can onboard them digitally through the app and connect them directly with the clinic and they can have their initial meeting online and start treatment straight away.”

The start-up is already discussing potential partnerships with half of the clinics in the Nordics and has three upcoming demo meetings in the UK.

“We are grateful for the support we’ve had from MMC Ventures, from our pre-seeds investors, founders, angels and from the patients who joined us at the cap table,” the founder adds.

“It’s going well and we are expecting the first clinic partnership this year.”
