Hers launches hair loss service for UK women

Hers has launched a clinician-led hair loss service for women in the UK, offering online assessments and personalised treatment plans.

The service, called Hers Hair, offers eligible women treatments in several formats, including chewable options, following an assessment by a UK-registered clinician.

Customers begin with a private online consultation. A clinician reviews their symptoms, medical history and individual circumstances before deciding whether treatment is appropriate.

Eligible customers receive a personalised treatment plan, ongoing clinical support, an educational programme and access to a care team available 24 hours a day.

Rebecca Holdt, vice-president of product, international at Hers, said the service aimed to address barriers to seeking support, including embarrassment, difficulties accessing appointments and concerns about not being heard.

Holdt said: “Hair loss is a real clinical issue that deserves to be taken seriously, yet our research shows most women are coping alone, whether from embarrassment, a hard-to-get appointment, or the fear of not being heard.

“Hers was built to help bridge this gap, bringing clinician-led care to women on their terms.

“Every eligible woman gets a private assessment and a personalised plan built around her, so getting help no longer means waiting, wondering, or feeling dismissed.

“It’s a meaningful step in Hers’ long-term investment in women’s health in the UK.”

Hers said the treatments were formulated by dermatologists using established ingredients, sometimes combined with vitamins.

Each plan requires approval from a UK-registered clinician.

Plans start at £13 a month, depending on the recommended treatment and plan length. The price includes a free initial consultation, a personalised treatment plan and discreet delivery from a registered UK pharmacy.

An estimated eight million women in the UK experience hair loss, with female pattern hair loss the most common type.

Around 50 per cent of women over 65 are affected by the condition, although it can begin at a younger age.

A systematic review cited by Hers found that 78 per cent of women experiencing hair loss reported feelings of shame, anxiety or depression. Another 60 per cent reported avoiding social interactions because of embarrassment and low self-worth.

Dr Kultar Garcha, chief medical officer of Hims & Hers UK and EMEA, said: “Too many women are simply doing without.

“Stigma keeps them from even raising hair loss with their GP, and when they do, patients aren’t always able to access the support and care they are looking for.

“That’s where digital health can help, relieving pressure on the system and reaching women who’ve had nowhere else to turn.

“Through Hers, a woman can access a private, judgment-free assessment and a plan built around her, backed by clinician-led treatments, recommended only when it’s right for her, and a Care Team available 24/7, whenever she needs it.”

Hers said its hair loss treatment plans had already helped hundreds of thousands of women in the US.

According to self-reported data from the company, more than 90 per cent of patients reported that their hair loss had stabilised or improved after one year of treatment.

The UK launch follows the introduction of Hers’ weight management programme in the country.

The company said it plans to expand its UK healthcare offerings in the coming months as part of its continued investment in the market.
